How Much Does a Website Cost in Kenya in 2026?

A research-based guide to website prices in Kenya, including business sites, e-commerce, hosting, M-Pesa and the costs people often forget.

If you have asked around for website quotations in Kenya, you have probably had this experience.

One developer says KSh 15,000. Another says KSh 80,000. An agency sends a proposal for KSh 250,000. Somehow, all three describe the project as a “business website.”

It is confusing, but it does not automatically mean someone is trying to overcharge you. A website can be a simple five-page introduction to a business, a full online shop with M-Pesa payments, or a custom system that customers log into every day. Those are very different projects.

So, how much does a website cost in Kenya in 2026?

For a professionally built website, current advertised prices generally begin at about KSh 15,000 and rise with the size, design and functionality of the project. E-commerce websites, booking platforms and custom web applications cost more because they involve payments, databases, user accounts or other business processes.

At KovaLab, website projects start from KSh 15,000. The final quotation depends on what the website needs to do, not on a package filled with features you may never use.

Website cost in Kenya at a glance

We reviewed seven Kenyan website pricing guides published or updated for 2026. Their figures vary widely, but the common advertised ranges look roughly like this:

These are market estimates, not official industry rates. Some providers include hosting, a domain, business email and support. Others quote only for design and development. That is why comparing the headline price alone can be misleading.

The ranges above were synthesised from current guides by Websites Kenya, PawaTech Systems, Dreaming Rose, Underscore Digital and Pulse Digital.

Why web design prices in Kenya vary so much

The phrase “I need a website” is a little like saying “I need a house.” Before anyone can price it properly, they need to know its size, purpose and what must be inside it.

These are the factors that have the biggest effect on the website development cost in Kenya.

The number of pages

A small website with Home, About, Services and Contact pages takes less time to plan and build than a site with twenty service pages, several locations, a blog and a large project gallery.

Page count is only part of the story. A normal About page is simpler than a property listing page with filters, maps, photographs and an enquiry form.

Custom design or a ready-made template

A template can lower the initial price because much of the layout already exists. It can work for a business that needs to get online quickly and has straightforward requirements.

A custom design costs more because the structure, user journey, mobile layout and visual system are created around one business. The extra work should make the site easier to understand and more recognisable, not merely more decorative.

Who is preparing the content

Every page needs useful words, photographs and accurate business information. If you already have polished copy and good images, the project can move faster.

If the developer also needs to plan the content, rewrite service descriptions, source images, edit photographs or upload a large product catalogue, that work belongs in the quotation.

Content delays are one of the most common reasons website projects take longer than expected. Gathering it before the project starts saves time on both sides.

Features and integrations

A normal contact form is simple. A booking system that checks availability, sends reminders and collects payment is not.

Features that commonly increase the price include:

  • M-Pesa or card payments
  • Appointment booking
  • Product catalogues and shopping carts
  • Customer accounts
  • Property or job listings
  • Multiple languages
  • Live chat
  • Email and SMS notifications
  • Dashboards and reports
  • Connections to accounting, inventory or customer-management software

The right question is not “How many features can we add?” It is “Which features remove work, help customers or create revenue?”

How much does a small business website cost in Kenya?

A small business website normally introduces the company, explains its services and gives visitors a clear way to call, email or send a WhatsApp message.

For a consultant, contractor, property agent, salon, small shop or service business, a focused starter website may be enough. It should still include:

  • A clean mobile-friendly design
  • Clear service information
  • Contact and WhatsApp actions
  • Basic search-engine setup
  • Secure hosting
  • Fast page loading
  • Ownership and handover details

Current Kenyan pricing guides place this category anywhere from about KSh 15,000 to KSh 60,000. The important difference is what each quotation includes.

KovaLab projects start from KSh 15,000. Before confirming a price, we agree on the pages, content, functionality and responsibilities so there is no confusion halfway through the build.

What does an e-commerce website cost in Kenya?

An e-commerce website costs more than a standard business site because it has to manage products, orders and payments safely.

Research for this article found advertised e-commerce website prices in Kenya starting at roughly KSh 45,000, with more complete or custom stores commonly quoted above KSh 100,000. Larger builds can reach KSh 350,000 or more.

The price depends on practical questions such as:

  • How many products need to be added?
  • Will customers pay online or complete orders through WhatsApp?
  • Is M-Pesa STK Push required?
  • Are card payments needed?
  • Will the site track stock?
  • Are delivery zones and charges different?
  • Does the business need customer accounts?
  • Who will manage products and orders after launch?

A catalogue with WhatsApp ordering is much simpler than a store connected to M-Pesa, card payments, inventory and delivery rules. Both can be called e-commerce, but they should not receive the same quote.

How M-Pesa integration affects the price

For many Kenyan businesses, accepting M-Pesa online is more useful than adding a payment method their customers rarely use.

There are different levels of integration. A website can display payment instructions, send an order to WhatsApp, or trigger an STK Push and confirm the transaction automatically. The last option requires more development, testing and Safaricom onboarding.

When comparing quotes, ask what “M-Pesa integration” actually means. Check whether the price includes Daraja API work, payment confirmation, failed-payment handling, receipts, transaction records and testing in the live environment.

Domain, hosting and maintenance costs

The development fee is not always the full cost of owning a website.

You may also need to budget for:

Domain registration

This is the website address, such as yourbusiness.co.ke or yourbusiness.com. It is usually renewed annually.

The domain should be registered in the business owner’s name and account. You should not lose your website address simply because you stop working with a particular developer.

Web hosting

Hosting is the service that keeps the website online. The cost depends on the traffic, storage, performance, support and server resources the project needs.

A small business website does not need the same hosting plan as a busy online store or custom application. Ask why a particular plan is being recommended instead of automatically paying for the most expensive option.

Website maintenance

After launch, a website may need software updates, backups, security checks, small content changes and technical support.

Some developers include a short support period. Others charge per request or offer a monthly maintenance plan. The arrangement should be written down before the project starts.

SEO and content

SEO setup and ongoing SEO are not the same thing.

A good launch setup can include page titles, meta descriptions, clean URLs, mobile performance, structured data, a sitemap and analytics. Ongoing SEO involves publishing useful content, improving pages, building authority and responding to real search data over time.

If a quote says “SEO included,” ask exactly what work is included.

What should be included in a website quotation?

A useful quotation should make the scope easy to understand. At minimum, check for:

  1. The pages or page types being built
  2. Whether the design is custom or template-based
  3. Who writes and uploads the content
  4. Mobile responsiveness
  5. Forms, payments and other integrations
  6. SEO setup and analytics
  7. Domain and hosting responsibilities
  8. The number of revision rounds
  9. The project timeline
  10. Training and handover
  11. Support after launch
  12. Ownership of the domain, content, accounts and website files

If one quote is KSh 20,000 and another is KSh 80,000, place their scopes next to each other. You may find that they are not offering the same product at all.

How to avoid paying for the wrong website

Start with the business goal, not a list of trendy features.

If you mainly need customers to find you, trust you and send an enquiry, begin there. If customers need to buy, book, log in or track something, document that process before requesting quotations.

It is also worth asking for live examples of previous work. Screenshots can look impressive, but a live website shows how the final product behaves on a phone, how quickly it loads and whether the details were finished properly.

Finally, be careful with both extremes. The cheapest quote can become expensive if the site has to be rebuilt. The most expensive quote can also waste money if it includes features your business is not ready to use.

Frequently asked questions

What is the average website cost in Kenya?

There is no official average. In the seven current Kenyan guides reviewed for this article, advertised starter website prices commonly fell between KSh 15,000 and KSh 60,000. Business, e-commerce and custom projects were priced higher depending on their scope.

How long does it take to build a business website?

A focused business website can often be completed in two to four weeks when the content and feedback are ready. Online stores and custom web applications take longer because they require more planning, development and testing.

Can I update the website myself?

Yes, if content management is included. Ask which sections you will be able to edit and whether training is part of the handover.

Does website pricing include hosting and a domain?

Sometimes, but not always. Some companies bundle the first year while others bill these costs separately. The quotation should state what is included, the renewal price and who owns each account.

Is SEO included in the website cost?

Basic SEO setup may be included, but ongoing SEO is usually a separate service. Ask whether the quote covers titles, descriptions, sitemap setup, analytics, performance and search indexing.
